The Nairobi Polo Club grounds buzzed with energy as the Lagos Polo Club defeated their Nairobi counterparts 5-2 in the Simon Kuseyo Memorial Cup, but the real spectacle unfolded beyond the field.
The tournament drew a fashionable crowd that included actor Pascal Tokodi, musician Wyre Da Love Child, content creator Seth Gor, Joe Muchiri and Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador Wangari Mwangi.

Itikadi fashion house seized the moment to showcase their latest collection, setting the tone for what became as much a fashion event as a sporting one.

Wangari Mwangi guided guests through carefully crafted polo inspired cocktails by Tanqueray that complemented the elegance of the afternoon.
The tournament itself carries significant meaning. It honors Simon Kuseyo, a Gilgil born polo player who rose to become a five goal handicap player, the highest ranked Kenyan of his era. Kuseyo played across continents from the UK and USA to Nigeria and South Africa, earning admiration for his mastery and refined sportsmanship. After his passing in 2000, the memorial cup was established to celebrate players who perform above their handicap and uphold the values of excellence and integrity that defined his career.

“Polo is a sport synonymous with craftsmanship, elegance and tradition,” said Nancy Nansikombi, Tanqueray Brand Manager. “As the Lagos and Nairobi clubs came together to play for the Simon Kuseyo Memorial Cup, we were reminded that style and mastery transcend borders.”
Lagos Polo Club’s decisive 5-2 victory earned them the trophy, but the afternoon delivered more than just a winner. It brought together two polo communities from different corners of Africa, united by their love for the sport and appreciation for the finer things.

The Simon Kuseyo Memorial Cup has carved out its place on Nairobi’s social calendar as more than just a polo tournament. It’s where sport meets style, where tradition embraces contemporary culture and where showing up matters just as much as the final score.
For those who attended, the message was clear: Nairobi can host world class sporting and social events with equal flair, creating experiences that resonate long after the last horse has left the field.
