She stepped away from the spotlight deliberately. Now she is back and the years away have clearly done something to her.
Celestine Gachuhi, best known for her role in Selina, has returned to screens in Adam to Eve, a new Showmax production where she plays Amanda, a character she describes as calm, bubbly, and quietly unshakeable. It is her first major screen appearance since Kiu, and she is candid about why she took the break.
“I became a wife. I became a mother. And everything changed,” she said. “Away from the spotlight, I have been building me, my brand, my purpose and the parts of myself that exist beyond acting.”
That time away was not quiet. Gachuhi founded Film Connect Africa, a mentorship initiative that takes industry knowledge into high schools, colleges and primary schools, preparing young creatives for the realities of the entertainment business. She also channels her energy into the Simama Initiative, which advocates against gender-based violence.

“I remember when I started acting, I was green. No one told me what a set is really like, how the industry works, or how tough it can be,” she said of her motivation for founding Film Connect Africa.
On crafting Amanda, she was deliberate. “Every time I get a character, I don’t just play her. I live her. I build her life in my head, even the parts the script doesn’t say,” she said.
Fame, she notes, comes with complications she did not fully anticipate. In 2019, a fan tracked her to her home in Ruaka and showed up unannounced at 7am, demanding they sing together. When Gachuhi declined, the fan refused to leave. “That incident changed how I think about fame, privacy, and safety forever,” she said.
Adam to Eve is now streaming on Showmax.
