Kenya’s creative scene got a major moment in the spotlight as artists, musicians, fashion designers and content creators gathered to discuss the future of African creativity.

The Creative Summit took place on September 30 at the East African Breweries headquarters in Nairobi, bringing together some of the country’s most influential creative voices for conversations about taking Kenyan and African talent to the world stage.

Two panel discussions drove the day’s agenda. “Walking with Culture: When Music Unites a Continent” explored how music connects people across African borders and helps elevate the continent’s creative output globally. The second panel, “Strides in Progress: Content Meets Culture,” dug into how fashion, art and digital content are opening doors for African creators and keeping African culture relevant in a fast-moving digital world.

Nyashinski, one of Kenya’s biggest music stars and Brand Ambassador for event host Johnnie Walker, was there to share his journey and thoughts on pushing creative boundaries.

But the summit wasn’t just about looking back at achievements. It also served as the official introduction to AfroExchange, a new platform launching in November that’s designed to bring African creatives together from across the continent. Think collaboration, experimentation and co-creation on a pan-African scale.

“This summit has been an incredible opportunity to celebrate Kenya’s immense talent and creativity. We are proud to stand alongside artists, creators, and innovators who are redefining what it means to be African on the global stage. It also serves as a launchpad for the upcoming AfroExchange event, which will build on this momentum and create even more opportunities for collaboration across the continent,” said Alvin Mbugua, General Manager, Spirits, EABL.

AfroExchange promises to be a major showcase of African creativity, building on a similar event that took place in Johannesburg earlier this year in June.

“At Johnnie Walker, our excitement lies in continuing to champion talent and supporting their progress, because when this creativity thrives, Africa walks taller, in line with our brand ethos of Keep Walking,” Mbugua added.

The event highlighted how Kenya’s creative sector is being recognized not just as entertainment, but as a serious economic force with the potential to put the country on the global cultural map.
