Acclaimed television producer Reuben Odanga is back with Lazizi, a new telenovela featuring veteran actors Mwaniki Mageria and Wilbroda.

The series premieres on October 6th on Maisha Magic Plus, bringing viewers a story rooted in Kenya’s sugarcane farming heartland.

Set against the backdrop of Western Kenya’s agricultural landscape, Lazizi follows the complex life of Mark Mbotela, a powerful businessman whose gubernatorial ambitions mask darker motivations. Mageria portrays the troubled mogul whose past threatens to destroy everything he has built.

Wilbroda plays Amina, Mark’s former lover and mother to his son Shaffie, a character struggling with alcoholism and depression.

Odanga drew inspiration from his memories of Muhoroni’s stunning landscapes, crafting a narrative that celebrates the region while addressing universal themes of power, family and consequence.

“I was heavily inspired by the flora and fauna of this country, especially the beautiful landscapes of Muhoroni which I recall from my school days,” said Producer Reuben Odanga. “I wanted to tell a story from that region, something we haven’t done before. It felt right to give the people there a story that would be closer to home and very relatable.”

The supporting cast brings together seasoned performers and fresh talent. Hellen Keli plays Bridget, Mark’s controlling wife, while newcomers Isaac Okoyo and Zandie Andika portray his sons from different relationships. The family dynamics drive much of the series’ tension, with each character harbouring secrets that could unravel the Mbotela empire.

Behind the scenes, experienced writers including Clifford Okumu and Wanjau Wachira have crafted storylines that blend political intrigue with personal drama. Directors June Ndinya and Davis Nato work alongside Odanga to bring the vision to life.
