This year’s World Gin Day brought something exciting to the table. Gordon’s, the world’s top-selling gin, mixed it up by adding a local flavor to a beloved tradition. Instead of just enjoying tea, they’re encouraging Kenyans to explore a fun new way of transforming their tea time into a cocktail hour, introducing what they’re calling “gin tea time.”

At an exclusive gin masterclass held at the Holiday Inn Nairobi, gin enthusiasts gathered to sip, stir and experiment. The session, led by brand mixologist Francis “Smiles” Mutunga, turned everyday ingredients like hibiscus, honey and lemon-ginger tea into inspired gin creations.

“We know Kenyans have a rich tea-drinking culture embedded in our identity. By combining this cultural cornerstone with the versatility of Gordon’s, we are inspiring new, playful, and approachable ways for consumers to enjoy gin at home. It’s exciting to see the uptake of unique cocktails like these tea cocktails, and I couldn’t be prouder to see Gordon’s leading the gin category on this front,” said Elizabeth Otieno, Brand Manager, Gordon’s.

During the event, participants got to try out a few easy-to-make tea cocktails that are perfect for enjoying at home:

1. Gordon’s Gin & Tonic: A timeless classic—60ml of Gordon’s London Dry Gin mixed with 30ml of tonic water. It’s fresh and reliable.

2. Gordon’s Simple & Zesty: A sweeter option made with 60ml of Gordon’s Premium Pink, hibiscus tea, and simple syrup, topped off with tonic. It’s floral and fun.

3. Gordon’s Ginger Amber: This one’s bright and comforting, combining 60ml of Gordon’s Sicilian Lemon, honey syrup, and lemon & ginger tea. A lovely mix of cozy and zesty.

These cocktails use ingredients most of us keep in our kitchens, making them accessible for everyone. They not only appeal to long-time tea lovers but also offer a fresh take for the younger crowd interested in mixing drinks at home.

As many of us look for new ways to enjoy time at home, Gordon’s is stepping in with these innovative tea cocktails that celebrate our local flavors. They’re easy to make, requiring no fancy equipment or skills.
